Helping Our World – Helping Our Children

Jennifer and Brad Dolecki-SmithThis past month Escape Garden Design was honored to be a supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at the Aspen International Fashion Week (AIFW).

We were truly blessed to be part of such a wonderful cause. Being a part of this event reminded me that we are all challenged by something, and that there are more people in the world which have been through a traumatic life-altering experience than we give time to realize.

For me, such realizations become apparent when I take the time to open up and share my experiences with others.

Because of you, there is St. Jude

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is an extraordinary organization undertaking the fight to find cures and save children. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90 percent in the next decade and won’t stop until no child dies from cancer. It costs $1.9 million a day to operate St. Jude, and public donations provide more than 75 percent of their funding.

Here is how St. Jude is making a difference for sick children:

♥  St. Jude freely shares the breakthroughs they make, thus doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.

♥  Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent since it opened 50 years ago.

♥  St. Jude is where doctors send their toughest cases because they have the world’s best survival rates for the most aggressive childhood cancers.

♥  St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute.

♥  St. Jude has embarked on an unprecedented effort to sequence the pediatric cancer genome and to identify the genetic changes that give rise to some of the world’s deadliest childhood cancers.

And on top of all of this, families of St. Jude patients “never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food, because the only thing a family should worry about is helping their child live.”

Together, we can make a difference!

About Aspen International Fashion Week

apres2Aspen International Fashion Week (AIFW) showcases luxury winter fashion, the only luxury outerwear fashion week in the country. The three-day event is filled with internationally known fashion and jewelry brands utilizing an open-air runway, local boutique gatherings and giveaways, and private parties at Aspen’s most renowned venues.

The closing event is the Black and White Ball benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, AIFW’s charitable partner. Brooke Fogg, AIFW President, is very passionate about giving back to charitable organizations.

The ball, which this year hosted 400 guests, was inspired by Truman Capote’s famous Black and White Ball of 1966. Two percent of all sponsorships and half of all ticket sales for the AIFW ball directly benefited St. Jude Children’s research Hospital.
