For each new morning with its light, for rest and shelter of the night, for health and food, for love and friends, for everything Thy goodness sends. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

RoseAs another year draws to a close, I take a look back and count my many blessings. I am blessed to have so many wonderful people in my life. I am blessed to live in such a beautiful place. And I am blessed for the good health of my immediate family.

As is life, there are events that occur that make me stop and take a hard look at myself and where I am at; a chance to reflect upon what truly is important in my life. Journaling can help capture and serve as a reminder of what we hold dear, along with a review of how far we have come. I just read a journal entry I wrote in 2005, in reviewing my past words and thoughts I am re-inspired for the coming year. It felt good to read my words. It made me smile thinking of all the people in my life that have inspired and challenged those words, for they have all blessed my life. Here is my 2005 entry:

“I believe in doing my best to be patient with people. I believe I love myself more when I’m a good person and treat people kindly. I believe in waiting my turn. I believe that people want to help other people. I believe that I am a happier person when I am considerate of others. I believe in striving to eliminate any selfishness from my life.”

I also feel blessed when I reflect back on this year at work: to be a part of a variety of wonderful projects and to work with so many amazing individuals. A sampling of our projects for 2013 consists of a green roof garden, a butterfly garden, and a wetland garden. We currently are in the midst of a 9′ waterfall and at the beginning stages of a remodel that has caused us to take a closer look at water quality measures for the entire site. Exciting stuff! The design will incorporate permeable paving substitutes, bioswales, infiltration beds and possibly a rain garden for storm water management, along with an array of considerations for underground water detention. Working closely with an experienced engineer has allowed us to design to the best of our collective ability, which is how a team should work. The project is exciting and enjoyable.

Moreover, our future appears to hold many new developments: there is some new potential on the boards for exciting designs, new applications, and community assistance that I am looking forward to. And as always I look forward to sharing all our developments with you as we go along.

It has been a wonderful year!

May you have a blessed and beautiful 2014 – Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
