Yesterday with our plant delivery from Denver, we got a special surprise.  A little buddy made his way the whole distance to come to Aspen – a snail.

This may very well be the largest snail that I have ever seen in person.  After us all checking him out for a bit, the crew decided that since my kids are still 3 and 4 years old we needed a new family pet.

A coffee cup was emptied out and rinsed and in he went with a few drops of water.  Later that day, I gave him my name – Java the Hut. And later yet he received his complete name – Flowers Ohiya Java Flash Smith courtesy of the entire family.

He is very active, and now resides in his new home a fish bowl with some soil and rocks.

Last night he ate three whole spring mix leaves.  Apparently snails can live as long as a dog, so we may have a long term resident.
